Chapter History

In May 2007, a diverse group of women at the University of Florida came together in an effort to initiate change in their community as well as fill a void in their own lives. Some girls sought new friends, while others looked to strengthen their current bonds. Some desired to become leaders and some wanted to find their niche in college. Although they had different reasons for joining, Katie Boylan, Tiffany Chiu, Katie Chu, Whitney Fung, Greta Gania, Ari Garay, Vanessa Kwong, Samantha Lai, Florence Luong, Amy Nguyen, Megan Olive, Helen Shin, Bowie Stephens, Rebecca Tam, and Jen Vu all agreed that their unifying goal was to form an everlasting sisterhood.

The interest group that formed soon after was known as Ignite, symbolizing the sparks of passion that motivated each member. Throughout the next year, Ignite worked diligently to bring an Asian Interest Sorority onto campus. They hosted social events with other Greek organizations, participated in service events in their Gainesville community, and enjoyed endless sisterhood events together. When it was time for Ignite to apply for a bid with their chosen sorority, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, they were ready to face any oncoming challenges.

Upon joining the sisterhood in December 2008, the University of Florida charters envision their chapter as a well-rounded and highly credible sorority that promotes sisterhood, scholarship, leadership and Asian Awareness. They hope to develop strong leaders and successful students that are well-integrated into the Greek system as well as the Asian community on campus. Most of all, they will be the ultimate embodiment of the missing element they had been searching for all along — sisterhood.
